The Ministry of Health has reported an increase in canine rabies in Cochabamba Department.
In the first six months of 2010, 4 cases of canine rabies were reported; in the same time period of 2011, 36 cases were recorded. Other Departments reporting an increase in canine rabies are Santa Cruz and Chuquisaca.
Advice for Travellers
Rabies pre-exposure vaccine is available for travellers who are considered to be at risk. Travellers should avoid all contact with animals and dogs and report any bites sustained to a medical practitioner.
