Lassa Fever in Nigeria

The Federal Ministry of Health reported Lassa fever outbreaks from 7 States (Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Plateau, Yobe, Lagos, Edo and Taraba) between weeks 1 - 2 (2012) with 27 suspected cases, 16 laboratory confirmed and 9 deaths.

Advice for Travellers

The risk of Lassa fever in travellers is very low. There is no vaccine to protect against Lassa fever. Travellers to endemic countries should avoid contact with rodents who excrete the virus in their urine and faeces.
