As of 23 Apr 2012, 5,170 dengue fever cases have been confirmed throughout the country and two deaths have been reported. The highest incidence rates are from Huila (15%), Meta, Valle and Caqueta (8% each). Children under the age of 14 years have been the most affected by the infection.
Advice for Travellers
Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
