There is currently a shortage of rabies vaccine in the UK. Rabipur® (Novartis Vaccines) will not be available until the mid-end of September 2012. Rabies Vaccine BP® (Sanofi Pasteur MSD) is available but supply to customers is limited to 15 doses of vaccine per month; this restriction may remain in place for some time.
If a patient has already started a course of rabies vaccination with Rabipur® the course can be completed with Rabies Vaccine BP since the vaccines may be used interchangeably to provide protection pre- or post-exposure.
