As of 10 October 2012, a total of 30 174 dengue fever cases have been recorded in Mexico as a whole. Of those, 19 660 are dengue haemorrhagic fever and 36 deaths have been recorded. States reporting dengue fever include; Veracurz (7503 cases), Yucatan (3810 cases), Chiapas (2854 cases), Guerrero (2706 cases), Quintana Roo (803 cases) and Campeche (1542 cases ).
Advice for Travellers
Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
