Cholera in Niger (Update)

17 October 2012

Cholera is an ongoing problem in Niger. As of 4 October 2012, 4375 cases of cholera and 80 deaths have been registered in Niger. The region of Tillabéri (Tera, Tillabéri, Kollo, Sai districts), which hosts refugees from Mali in several camps, is the most affected.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
