Cholera is an ongoing problem in Sierra Leone although a steady decline in daily reported cases has been noted more recently.
As of 12 October 2012, 20 736 cholera cases and 280 related deaths have been recorded since the beginning of the year; 12 of the 13 districts of Sierra Leone have been affected.

Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
