The outbreak of cholera in the Dominican Republic has been ongoing since November 2010. As of 3 November 2012, the Dominican Ministry of Health has recorded, 6622 suspected cholera cases and 47 suspected cholera related deaths in 2012.

Cholera is considered a low risk for travellers who have access to safe drinking water and who maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and food safety.
Cholera vaccine is available for those mixing closely with the local population who cannot ensure safe water/food and a good standard of personal hygiene.
