Poliomyelitis in Nigeria (Update)

One new poliomyelitis case was reported in the past week from Kano state in northern Nigeria. This brings the total number of cases for 2012 to 122. This is the most recent case in the country and had onset of paralysis on 22 December 2012.

All states with recently confirmed wild polio virus cases have been covered by at least two large scale rounds of vaccination.

Advice for Travellers

It is recommended that travellers have a poliomyelitis booster (or course) if not already protected and take precautions with food, water and personal hygiene.
