Around 27 new cases of measles were reported during the last 24 hours in the Lahore province including two from the city. The total number of reported measles cases has reached 22 971 in the last seven months. According to Health Department officials, at least 192 deaths have been reported so far while most deaths occurred in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Kasur and Sialkot.

It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of MMR at 12-15 months of age and again pre-school around 3 years 6 months, while unimmunised adults who have not had the disease themselves may consider vaccination if thought to be at risk. Two doses of MMR vaccine are required to give adequate protection.
