The outbreak of measles in the Dutch Bible Belt appears to be slowing. In the last week new measles notifications went down to 64, this compares with 127 in the previous week. A total of 1226 measles cases have been recorded since the outbreak began in May 2013. Of those cases, 82 have been hospitalized due to complications.
New measles notifications have been falling for several weeks, however, health officials do not feel that the outbreak has peaked as new cases are expected once the schools re-open following the summer holidays. The outbreak is not expected to peak until the autumn.

Advice for Travellers
It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of MMR at 12-15 months of age and again pre-school around 3 years 6 months, while unimmunised adults who have not had the disease themselves may consider vaccination if thought to be at risk. Two doses of MMR vaccine are required to give adequate protection.
