Cholera in Namibia

An outbreak of cholera has been reported from the Kunene Region of Namibia. Almost 50 suspected cases have been reported with 5 cholera associated deaths. Four of the fatal cases were located in the worst affected area, Etanga village in the Epupa constituency. Cholera was confirmed in 3 of the fatal cases.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
