Immunisation Against Infectious Disease (Green Book) Updated Chapters

01 May 2014

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has published two updated chapters of Immunisation against infectious disease (Green Book). The updated chapters have been uploaded and are available online:

Yellow Fever - Chapter 35

This chapter has been fully updated to include advice and recommendations on reinforcing immunisation following the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on immunization (SAGE) conclusion that a single dose of vaccination is sufficient to confer at least 35 years or even life-long immunity against yellow fever virus infection.

The JCVI recommends that revaccination should be offered to:

Those needing a valid ICVP.

Those who received their initial yellow fever vaccination:

  • when aged less than two years old
  • during pregnancy
  • whilst infected with HIV
  • when immune suppressed
  • before undergoing a bone marrow transplant.

A flow chart has been included to assist practitioners decide on the need for revaccination.

An update to the administration of yellow fever vaccine recommends that where possible, yellow fever vaccine and MMR vaccine should be given 28 days apart rather than on the same day. There is some evidence to suggest sub-optimal antibody responses against yellow fever, mumps and rubella antigens.

UK Immunisation Schedule - Chapter 11

This chapter has been fully updated to include all the recent changes to the UK childhood immunisation schedule and the adult programme.
