As of 15 May 2014, a total of 322 230 cases of dengue fever have been recorded nationally in Brazil. Of those, 2184 have been cases of dengue haemorrhagic fever and 69 individuals have died as a result.
There are 321 cities in Brazil that are at risk dengue fever outbreaks and 725 cities are on alert status.
Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
