New Resources for Tick-borne Encephalitis Prevention

13 June 2014

Two new resources have been produced by the Tick Alert campaign to assist healthcare professionals raise awarenes and advise travellers on preventing tick-borne encephalitis (TBE).

The first resource is a slide presentation, available for download at www.Tickalert.org which gives practice and travel health nurses a ‘one-stop’ reference for TBE information and advice.

The presentation details the countries where the disease is endemic, profiles at-risk traveller groups, disease symptoms, long-term health consequences, the effectiveness and safety of pre-travel vaccination and tick bite avoidance measures.

It is designed to be used either as an educational tool or in conjunction with travel patients to assess their risk and decide appropriate recommendations about vaccination.

The second resource, a webcast on TBE featuring Sandra Grieve, independent travel health specialist nurse and former chair and travel health lead for the RCN Public Health Forum, is now live on the Nursing in Practice website.
