Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) has reported that the cholera outbreak in Bauchi State (northeastern Nigeria) is over. The outbreak began at the beginning of the year (2014) and more than 15 500 cases were reported. Fourteen of the 20 districts of Bauchi State were affected by the outbreak. Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
