The World Health Organisation has just published the 19th Global Report on Tuberculosis (TB). The report provides a comprehensive assessment of the TB epidemic and progress in implementing TB prevention, care and control at global, regional and country levels.
Of the estimated 9 million people who developed TB in 2013, more than half (56%) were in the South-East Asia and Western Pacific Regions. A further one quarter were in the African Region, which also had the highest rates of cases and deaths relative to population. India and China alone accounted for 24% and 11% of total cases, respectively.
Using WHO data, the table listing the incidence of TB worldwide has been updated and is available via the Tuberculosis record. Individual country records have also been updated to reflect any change in incidence during 2013.
