Avian Influenza (H9N2) (Human) in Egypt

16 February 2015

The Ministry of Health for Egypt has reported the first confirmed human case of avian influenza (H9N2) in the country. The case is a 3-year-old boy from Aswan, whose infection was detected by the routine surveillance system for avian influenza. The case had contact with poultry thought to be healthy. The H9N2 virus has been detected in poultry in Egypt since 2011, however, this is the first human case to be reported.
