Dengue Fever in Malaysia (Update)

The State Health Committee reported that as of 9 May 2015, there were 41 451 cases of dengue reported in Malaysia for 2015. This is 34.1 percent higher compared with the same reporting period of 2014 (n=30 921).

The number of dengue cases in Penang has seen an almost 3-fold increase, with 2012 cases reported till 20 May 2015 compared to only 704 for the same period last year (2014).

Advice for Travellers

Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
