Yellow Fever in Uganda

The media has reported that the Ugandan Ministry of Health has confirmed an outbreak of yellow fever (YF) around a town called Masaka in Central Uganda.

At least five cases of YF have been detected, several other patients have been tested and the results are now awaited. It appears that the first cases date back to mid March 2016.

Further information and confirmation by WHO is awaited.

Advice for Travellers

There is a risk of yellow fever in Uganda and vaccination is advised for all travellers (unless contraindicated). A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travellers over 1 year of age arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission.

Travellers should also take steps to avoid mosquito bites at all times.
