On the 6 January 2017 a government report (in Portuguese) from the Brazilian Ministry of Health advised that they has notified the World Health Organisation (WHO) of 12 suspected cases of yellow fever virus and 5 deaths.
The deaths were reported between 19 December 2016 and 5 January 2017 from the following 6 municipalities of Minas Gerais: Ladainha, Malacacheta, Frei Gaspar, Caratinga, Piedade de Caratinga and Imbé de Minas.
Investigations into other possible causes are reported to be ongoing.
