Human Cases of Avian Influenza A(H7N9) in China (Update)

On 9 January 2016 a media report advised that in December 2016 the Chinese National Health and Family Planning Commission recorded 83 human cases of avian influenza A(H7N9), including 25 deaths.

Among the cases, 58 reported exposure to poultry or poultry markets whilst the source of infection of the remaining 17 cases was still under investigation. Of the cases 52 were from Jiangsu, 21 from Zhejiang, 9 from Anhui and 1 from Fujian.

Advice for Travellers

Travellers experiencing severe flu like symptoms within 10 days of returning from travel should contact their GP and inform them of their recent travel.
