The malaria advice and map for Ecuador has recently been updated. This was following consideration by the Scottish Malaria Advisory Group (SMAG) after an extensive trawl of the available data was undertaken.
Malaria risk is downgraded to low to no in all areas below 1500m including coastal provinces. There is no risk in Guayanquil, Quito, other cities in the inter-Andean region and the Galapagos islands. Antimalarials are not recommended for any areas but bite avoidance and prompt investigation of fever remain important.
See the malaria section of the Ecuador country record for further details.
