The Ministry of Health in France most recent updateindicates continuing circulation of measles virus in France. Between 1 January and 31 May 2017 295 cases of measles were reported, in the main from Lorraine (Northeast France), New Aquitaine, and Occitania (South East France); there is evidence of virus circulating in many Departments across the country. For the same period in 2016 47 cases were reported in France.
France continues to seek to improve vaccine coverage in order to protect all, and particularly vulnerable groups such as infants, pregnant women,and the immunocompromised.
Travel may increase an individual’s risk of exposure to measles virus, and facilitate the spread of disease to unvaccinated and susceptible populations. Charging for Measles Containing Vaccine:
It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of MMR at 12-13 months of age and again pre-school around 3 years 4 months. Consider vaccinating all unimmunised adults who have not had the disease themselves, particularly if they are going to be at higher risk. Two doses of MMR vaccine, at least one month apart, are required to give adequate protection.
