Italian news media reports (in Italian) that 13 cases of chikungunya have now been detected in Rome and the surrounding areas. This number includes 4 cases in the city of Rome and 3 cases recently detected in Anzio, 50km south of the city. Investigations are continuing.
No vaccine is available against Chikungunya. Mosquito bite avoidance is the only method of reducing the risk of infection.
