On 9 January 2018 the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Healthreported that there have been 1 769 cases of MERS-CoV since 2012. This total includes 716 deaths and 9 patients currently under treatment.
The risk associated with MERS-CoV to the general UK population and travellers to the Arabian Peninsula and surrounding countries remains very low.
