The 2018 updated edition of the RCN Competencies: Travel Health Nursing: career and competence development has just been published.
This publication defines the standards that would be expected for a competent nurse, experienced/proficient nurse and a senior practitioner/expert nurse.
The 2018 edition has been updated in response to an audit and evaluation.
The document includes information on pre-travel risk assessment and management, travel medicine services in the UK, and current guidelines and standards for the care of travellers by appropriately registered practitioners.
Sample travel risk assessment and management forms are included in the document.
Although it is focused on the work of a registered nurse, much of the information provided is equally applicable to other practitioners providing travel health services, and makes essential and informative reading.
