World Rabies Day 2018 Banner

World Rabies Day is held each year on the 28th September, the anniversary of Louis Pasteur’s death.

Created and coordinated annually by Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC) World Rabies Day aims to increase awareness of the disease and its prevention.

The theme this year is: Rabies – Share the message. Save a life.

This highlights the importance of education and awareness to prevent rabies, and continues the global strategic plan to end human deaths from dog-mediated rabies by 2030 (zero by 30).

Rabies is 99.9% fatal and 100% preventable.

World Rabies Day is a reminder to Health Professionals in the UK that Rabies risks should be discussed in all relevant travel consultations. The Travax Rabies risk page and Rabies FAQ page give information on the disease and pre exposure vaccination. Consult the relevant country pages for country specific risks.

Further information on how you can support the campaign to eradicate rabies can be found at Global Alliance for Rabies ControlWebsite.
