On the 22nd May 2019 The World Health organisation (WHO)
officially recognised Algeria and Argentina as malaria-free. The certification is granted when a country proves that it has interrupted indigenous transmission of the disease for at least 3 consecutive years.
Argentina reported their last cases of indigenous malaria in 2010, and as such following the WHO malaria report in November 2018, the malaria map was removed from the Travax country page at that time.
Algeria reported their last case of indigenous malaria in 2013.The malaria map has now been removed from the country page and the malaria advice text amended.
While malaria no longer presents a risk for travellers to these countries, other mosquito-borne infections are present so mosquito bite avoidance remains an important health precaution.
