TRAVAX hepatitis B Recommendations Updated

04 September 2019

The Travel and International Health team have carried out a revision of hepatitis B recommendations for all TRAVAX country pages. See individual country pages.
Hepatitis B virus is found worldwide. Every country on TRAVAX therefore has a hepatitis B recommendation, either ‘sometimes advised’ or ‘selectively advised’. In addition, there is an indication on each county page to the estimated risk category based on estimated prevalence for hepatitis B: high ≥8%; intermediate 2 – 7%; low <2%.

For each recommendation, further advice around who should be vaccinated includes:

Consider vaccinating:

  • frequent travellers
  • long stay travellers
  • those more likely to be exposed such as children (from cuts and scratches)
  • those more at risk of injury and accidents (e.g. climbers, backpackers, adventure travellers, contact sports
  • individuals with underlying conditions who may need surgical procedures abroad
  • those travelling for medical procedures abroad
  • those at occupational risk (e.g. healthcare workers)

See the TRAVAX Hepatitis B page for further information on the disease.
