The Travel and International Health Team have completed the annual review of country specific TB recommendations for all countries.
Utilising WHO data, TRAVAX methodology categorises TB risk as follows:
- TB incidence of < 40 per 100 000 - TB not mentioned under vaccine preventable diseases on country page
- TB incidence of 40 - 100 per 100 000 - TB is classified as 'common' and incidence is stated on country page
- TB incidence of > 100 per 100 000 - TB is classified as 'very common' and incidence is stated on country page.
Even where TB is classed as 'common' or 'very common', vaccination aganist TB for travellers is only considered for specific risk groups such as:
- Tuberculin-negative travellers under 16 years-of-age who will be living or working with local people for a prolonged period of time (>3 months).
- Tuberculin-negative individuals under 35 years-of-age who may be at risk through their occupation. See Green Book, Ch 32
- Tuberculin-negative individuals over 35 years-of-age who may be at particularly high risk of exposure to TB.
