Polio in The USA (New York State)

The Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) has reported a case of paralytic polio in Rockland County, New York in the week ending 22 July 2022. Rockland County is north of New York City, on the west side of the Hudson River.

Advice for Travellers

Poliomyelitis is spread mainly through person to person contact via the faecal-oral route.

  • Travellers should be offered a booster dose of poliomyelitis vaccine if it has been more than 10 years since their last dose.
