The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) UK Malaria Expert Advisory Group (formerly the Advisory Committee on Malaria Prevention)) published updated Guidelines for malaria prevention in travellers from the UK on 3 Dec 2024.
Following a review of the guidelines, updates have been made across TRAVAX and fitfortravel websites. A summary of the changes are as follows:
The malaria maps must always be used in conjunction with the malaria advice text, as they are only intended as a guide, and they may not be exact. It is essential that they are used in this context. It should be noted that due to software restrictions, it is not possible for Public Health Scotland to make changes to the ‘risk areas’ on the TRAVAX and fitfortravel malaria maps at this time. Therefore, in some instances where indicated, the text advice will supersede the risk areas displayed on the malaria map and should always be followed.
