Measles in New Zealand (Update 2)

18 July 2011

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service has confirmed 64 measles cases in the region, as of 14 July 2011. Most cases have occurred in West Auckland with some cases identified in Central Auckland, North Shore and Manukau. Most of the 64 measles cases were unimmunised or partially immunised individuals.

Advice for Travellers

It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of MMR at 12-15 months of age and again pre-school around 3 years 6 months, while unimmunised adults who have not had the disease themselves may consider vaccination if thought to be at risk. Two doses of MMR vaccine are required to give adequate protection.
