Yellow Fever in Ghana

The Upper West Region of Ghana has recorded 3 cases of yellow fever during 2011, according to the Medical Director of Saint Joseph's Hospital at Jirapa. One case has been recorded from each of Wa Municipality, Jirapa and Wa East Districts. A mass immunisation programme has been initiated in the area, particularly aimed at children above one year of age.

Advice for Travellers

Yellow fever is endemic in this part of West Africa and vaccination is usually recommended for travellers. In addition precautions to prevent mosquito bites should be taken.
