Pertussis in Chile

The Ministry of Health reported the detection to date of 2030 cases of whooping cough, or pertussis, which mainly affects infants younger than 1 year-of-age. In a normal period 800 cases at most are recorded. So far in 2011, this has resulted in the death of 11 infants in the Bio-Bio Region.

Advice for Travellers

It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of pertussis vaccine in accordance with the UK schedule. Booster doses of pertussis vaccine is not recommended for adults in the UK.
