Lassa Fever in Ghana

21 December 2011

The Public Health Directorate at the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has set up a committee to investigate a suspected outbreak of Lassa fever in the Eastern and Ashanti regions.

Advice for Travellers

The risk of Lassa fever in travellers is very low. There is no vaccine to protect against Lassa fever. Travellers to endemic countries should avoid contact with rodents who excrete the virus in their urine and faeces.
