An outbreak of diphtheria began in November 2011, in North Darfur with a total of 10 482 suspected cases and 17 deaths reported. Cases are reported from Al Leayt, El Tawisha, El Fasher and Tawali. Fifteen out of 98 samples tested were positive for diphtheria. An immunisation campaign is sheduled for the affected areas; targeting both children and adults.
