Typhoid Fever in Philippines

An outbreak of typhoid fever has been reported from the town of Maydolong in Eastern Samar. Approximately 100 suspected cases have been recorded, according to Department of Health officials. The outbreak is suspected to have originated in Barangay Maybucog.

Advice for Travellers

Typhoid vaccine is usually recommended for those visiting the Philippines. Precautions with food and water hygiene is also recommended as the vaccine is not fully effective in protecting against typhoid fever.
