Data from the National Reference Laboratory of Argentina has shown an increasing number of pertussis cases in the first quarter of 2012.
As of 30 April 2012, 2399 suspected pertussis cases have been recorded, of which 597 have been laboratory confirmed. This is an increase of 133% compared with the same time period in 2011, when 1028 suspected pertussis cases (313 confirmed) were recorded.
Advice for Travellers
It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of pertussis vaccine as per National Schedule. Adult boosters of pertussis vaccine are not recommended for the UK.
