The number of pertussis cases in Minnesota is approaching 700 cases according to the Minnesota Department of Health. This is more than double the number of cases reported earlier this month (May 2012) and exceeds the total number of cases reported last year (2011).
Advice for Travellers
It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of pertussis vaccine as per National Schedule. Adult boosters of pertussis vaccine are not recommended for the UK. Informal reports suggest that some adult travellers are being advised to have boosters of pertussis prior to travel to some parts of the USA especially if visiting infants and young children - see information in Pertussis FAQs on vaccinating adults.
