Since Jan 2012, 1759 pertussis cases have been reported. In the past two weeks (28 Apr-11 May 2012), 203 new cases of pertussis were reported. The highest numbers of cases were reported in Canterbury (61 cases), Capital and Coast (16 cases), and Hutt Valley (12 cases). The highest cumulative rate in 2012 was reported in Nelson Marlborough, followed by West Coast and Tairawhiti.

Advice for Travellers
It should be confirmed that children have received their recommended doses of pertussis vaccine in accordance with the UK schedule. The JCVI does not recommend pertussis boosters for adults in the UK.
