Malaria in India (Update)

18 June 2012

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation health department reported that the number of malaria cases has tripled in just one year. The city, in January-May 2011, had reported 946 cases, which has increased to 3047 in the same period this year (2012).

Advice for Travellers

Gujarat state is a variable risk area for malaria and chemoprophylaxis is recommended. Travellers should also take steps to avoid mosquito bites and report any fevers promptly, even up to one year after visiting the area.
