Between Jan and May 2012, a total of 111 suspected cases of dengue fever have been reported in Djibouti City. Since November 2011, sporadic cases of dengue fever have been reported from the country; mostly in French expatriates.
Advice for Travellers
Avoidance of mosquito bites is essential in Djibouti, not only to help prevent dengue fever but also malaria and yellow fever. Personal protective measures include covering up with clothing, the use of mosquito repellents and impregnated bed nets. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
