Mumps in Belgium

27 June 2012

There have been 350 notifications of mumps from March to May this year. As mumps is not a notifiable disease in Belgium, this number is thought to be an under-estimate of actual cases. Most cases (55%) have been in students aged 18 - 24 years but children and adults are also affected.

Advice for Travellers

The ongoing transmission of measles and mumps in the European region serves as a reminder that two doses of MMR are advised for protection. Travellers to affected outbreak countries may need vaccine if not fully protected.
