An outbreak of cholera has been reported in the town of Kismayo, Jubbada Hoose province in southern Somalia. The Kismayo General Hospital has recorded 650 cholera cases since the beginning of the year with around 40 cases reported every week since May 2012.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
