An outbreak of cholera has been reported from Igbaraodo-Ekiti, Ekiti State in southwest Nigeria. The report does not mention the number of cases in the outbreak however, there have been two deaths as a result of cholera.
The government is reported to have sent vaccine to the affected community and neighbouring Ilawe-Ekiti. An awareness campaign is underway in all areas of the state.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
