An outbreak of dengue fever has been reported from the city of Cebu on the island of Cebu in central Philippines. As of 21 July 2012, the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit has recorded 2108 dengue fever cases and 10 related deaths. An increase of 148 new cases was reported between 14-21 July 2012.
Guadaloupe barangay is the largest and worst affected in the city of Cubu with 154 residents affected by dengue virus.
Government and health officials are meeting to discuss strategies to contain the outbreak.

Advice for Travellers
Avoidance of mosquito bites, particularly during daylight hours, by covering up with clothing, the use of bite avoidance measures such as repellent and bed nets is advised. Elimination of breeding sites around hotel rooms/houses is advised for longer term stays.
