An outbreak of cholera has been reported from Doti district, Far Western Region. Cases of diarrhoea have been reported since the beginning of June 2012, cholera was confirmed in 5 of 17 samples tested in Kathmandu.
Cholera cases have occurred in several towns and villages throughout the district, including: Durgamandau, Gajari, Ladagada, Bagalek, Kalena, Dipayal Silgadi and Kadama-ndau.
Advice for Travellers
Travellers to outbreak areas who will be mixing closely with the local population and cannot ensure safe drinking water can be immunised against cholera. A high standard of food, water and personal hygiene should also be maintained.
