The Ministry of Health for Indonesia has notified WHO of a new confirmed case of a human infection with avian influenza A (H5N1) virus. The case is a 37-year-old male from Yogyakarta province on the island of Java. The man developed a fever on 24 July 2012, was admitted to hospital where he died on 30 July.
To date, the total number of human influenza A (H5N1) cases in Indonesia is now 191 with 159 fatalities. Eight cases (all fatal) have occurred in 2012.
